check Airpods compatible or not?
Make sure your Airpods are compatible with this feature as the automatic device switching feature is only in second generation Airpods and later the first generation of Airpods doesn’t seem to have automatic device switching feature. If you don’t know which generation Airpods you are using as the first and second-generation AirPods look the same, you can identify them by model number. Here’s how
- Connect your Airpods with your iPad or iPhone.
- Open the Settings app on your device which is connected to Airpods
- Select Bluetooth, Tap the info icon next to your AirPods
- Check Model Number. If you see A1523 or A1722 listed next to it, you have a pair of first generation AirPods that don’t support automatic audio or device switching.
- If you see A2031 or a later model number, your AirPods should be compatible with automatic device switching.

Make sure your Airpods Firmware is Up to Date
The second generation Airpods and later and the Airpods pro Update and install its firmware over-the-air whenever they’re connected to an iOS device. However, putting your earbuds in the case, connecting them to a power source, and then pairing the AirPods to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time. In September 2020 Apple released updated firmware named 3A283 for its Airpods pro which introduced spatial audio and audio switching.
How to check Airpods firmware? Here’s how,
- Make sure the AirPods are connected to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Click on General.
- Click on About.
- Then click on AirPods.
- Look at the number next to “Firmware version.”
Update your macOS

Therefore it is necessary to upgrade your MacBook or iMac to Big Sur OS, failing to do so will not provide you the latest features.

- Open your Mac system preferences by tapping the Apple icon at the top left corner of the menu bar.
- Next, select Software Update.
- Click Upgrade Now next to the macOS Big Sur update.
Note:- If you don’t find a macOS Big Sur on the Software Update page, you most likely have an incompatible Mac. So we suggest you to use the latest Mac Device for your Airpods.
Update your iOS or iPadOS

- At the back of the case, there is a setup button press and hold that button for a minimum of 15 seconds.
- Release the button when the status light on the charging case flashes an amber color and changes back to a blinking white light.
