“The new layout has been simplified into a sleek one column design with reduced top-level tiles. For the IT admins out there, don’t worry, commercial and education customers will also see a simplified layout tailored to these scenarios,”

The new Light theme color scheme is available in Settings > Personalization > Colors and selecting the Light option under “Choose your color” drop-down menu.

And after enabling light mode in Windows 10, you’ll notice the Taskbar, Action Center, Start menu and other elements in the light color scheme.

Windows Sandbox

Windows Sandbox

Windows Sandbox is a new feature introduced on Windows 10 1903. Windows sandbox only available for Windows 10 Professional users that allows you to easily run a virtualized version of Windows 10 in a window, allowing you to run the software and test out settings and code without it affecting your main Windows 10 installation.

This is a great feature for those who want to run a program that they’re not so sure about, without putting their entire system at risk. Once you finish using the app, closing the session will delete everything automatically.

Microsoft states:

Windows sandbox feature uses hardware virtualization and the Microsoft Hypervisor technology to create a lightweight environment (using around 100MB of space) to install and run an untrusted application. It’s a virtualized environment, but you don’t need to create a virtual machine manually.

To use this feature you need manually enable the Windows Sandbox from Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off, and then select Enable Windows Sandbox.

you can read more about Windows sandbox feature from here.

Cortana Split Up from Windows search

Cortana Split Up from Windows search

With Windows 10 1903 Update Microsoft finally Splits Up Windows Search and Cortana in the taskbar to offer the best search and voice-first digital assistant experience.

According to Microsoft Now you’ll find Cortana as a separate icon next to the desktop search bar. Clicking the search box in the taskbar now launches our experience focused on giving you the best in house search experience and clicking the Cortana icon will launch you straight into our voice-first digital assistant experience.”

A Better Default Layout for Start menu

Better Default Layout for Start menu

Microsoft also makes the Start menu layout simpler. Previously, the default Start menu layout was a loud, busy mess of titles, and most of them were unwanted by the users. From Windows 19H1 on, the Start menu will be simpler with just two groups of 6 apps in one column, showing the essentials first and foremost. If you clean install the update, create a new account or a buy a new device, you will notice a simplified default Start layout (see above image).

Also you can now unpin groups and folders in Start via a new context menu option. The option is quite helpful as it basically allows users to remove apps and games pinned to the Start Menu at once.

Start menu also updated with Fluent Design improvements and the Power button in the Start menu now shows an orange indicator if the installation of an update is pending. And now start menu comes with its own separate StartMenuExperienceHost.exe process that should result in reliability improvements and better performance

New UI for Reset this PC

Microsoft has added New UI for Reset this PC as part of Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. The new UI provides a more consistent experience across devices with different configurations and requires fewer clicks to complete.

7 GB Reserved Storage

This is another controversial feature that Windows 10 May 2019 Update brings is that it will now reserve 7GB of space on your hard drive which will be used to store temporary files.

Company says

The idea is that this will make downloading Windows 10 updates easier in the future, and will prevent people from experiencing an error where an update fails to install due to lack of space.

Pause updates for 7 days

Starting with Windows 10 1903 Microsoft added “Pause updates for 7 days” option that allow Windows 10 Home basic users to pause windows updates for 7 days.

The Settings app is also getting a number of refinements. The Settings home page now has a header allowing you to take quick actions for things like signing in and managing your Microsoft account. It also gives you an “easy to glance” at system status, such as when updates are available.
